News As Reported In The Enterprise Forty Years Ago June 3,1910 On Thursday afternoon of last week at 4 o’clock, little Miss Estelle Crawford was hostess to about thirty five of her friends at the home of her parents, ► Sheriff and Mrs .1 C. Crawford, on Haughton Street. Many sweet remembrances of the day were given the little hostess, and the hours went merry as a marriage bell. There was a prize cake in which silver coins had been placed —the one getting the lar gest amount declared the winner. The little folks heartily indulged in games which pleased. Ice cream and cake were served the guests in the dining room. The following invitation has been received; Mrs. Alexander Hall Smith re quests the honor of your pres ence at the Church of the Advent Williamston, North Carolina on Wednesday morning, the fifteenth of June, at eight o’clock to witness the marriage of her daughter Nannie Hayes to Dr. Joseph Hub bard Saunders. The following young people * from Koborsonville attended a picnic at Sheppard’s Mill Friday and report a very good time. It was a grand old time picnic that is always enjoyable; J. A. On the first day of June one of the most brilliant events in Jhe j history of marriages in William- | ston during the last decade took i place. The contracting parties I were Mr. Rufus Theodore Coburn • and Miss Rosina Dowell. The ! spacious Baptist Church was filled to overflowing with guests long before the hour. Miss Lottie Criteher presided at the organ and rendered as a prelude, "Long i inn." while waiting the appointed hour. Promptly at 3 o'clock, the first strains of Mendelsohn’s Bri dal Chorus were heard and sweet voices filled the vestibule, then the doors opened admitting the members of the Philathea Class charmingly dressed in white, who came up the aisle and entered the choir stall, where their voices sounded the joyous welcome to the coming bride. Then the ushers, Dr. John Biggs, Grover W. Hard ison, J. M. S. Salisbury of Hamil ton, and Asa T. Crawford, walked slowly up the aisles and grouped themselves about the steps of the chancel. Next entered Miss Pattie Dowell, sister of the bride, and 1 Harvey Roberson, of Roberson 1 ville, cousin of the groom, who took first positions in the chancel, the others coming in the following order: Mi^s Lena Brown, of ; Greenville, and J. J. Stroud; Miss Carrie Biggs and George Dowell, Jr. , brother of the bride; Miss Louise Howell, of Alexandria, Va. , and Burras A Criteher. Two ; of the Dames of Honor, Mcsdames W. E. Woodruff and G D. Shell, of Roanoke Rapids, sisters of the groom, attractively gowned in ' white satin, completed tire group ] the other Dames ofHonor, Mrs. Henry Powell, sister of the bride, i robed in lavimder silk, and Mrs. j John D lbggs, attractive in blue I satin, stopped at the steps of the •chancel and waited for the corn ting of the bride and groom. Miss Reta Roberson, of Ruber sonville, is visiting friends in Rethel this week. The many friends of Miss Clyde Tripp, of Robersonville, are glad to see her out again Miss Myrna Might has returned to her liome in Robersonville after a visit in Greenville. “Ruth," the handsome new launch owned by Messrs A. S Coffield and Henry Gurganus, is showing much speed on the waters of the Roanoke, and tin owners are finding great plea sure in their possession.
